Dr. Kato was born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor and Masters degree from Michigan State University then graduated Cum Laude from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Florida.
Dr. Kato is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Florida Society of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Refractive Surgery, and the American and Florida Medical Associations. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Capital Medical Society and serves on the Access to Care committee which helps provide care to needy patients.
He donates his services locally through the We Care Network and Children's Medical Service. He also participates in the National Eye Care project which provides public service programs for the nation's disadvantaged elderly.
He and his wife Nan support multiple charitable organizations and are strong patrons to the Arts in Tallahassee. They have three children.
