Before having Dr. Brienen as my optometrist, I have had consistent problems with my vision including blurriness, sporadic redness, trouble with night vision, irritation due to contacts etc. Dr. Brienen introduced me to a new type of silicone contact that has changed the way I see. I have astigmatism in both of my eyes and these contacts not only aide in the correction of that issue, but allow me to see clearer then I ever have.

I have been a patient of Dr. Brienen’s for about a year and a half. I can whole heartedly say that I have come to know Dr. Brienen as a person who is extremely passionate about what he does.  Considerate and patient with those he helps, he takes pride in his profession, a fact that is evident in his demeanor.

My overall experience at Eye Associates has been wonderful.  Their staff is always accommodating and attentive to me as a patient.  The individuals at the front always have a smile on their faces and I feel warmly welcomed at every visit.  Furthermore, the technicians and/or assistants that I have seen before being shown to Dr. Brienen’s office have always been extremely helpful and friendly while doing their routine checks/tests.

I had never met Dr. Weaver prior to my injury. On the morning of May 6, 2008 around 4:00 am Dr. Weaver entered my room in the emergency room at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He introduced himself and asked immediately how I was. It was obvious to me, at that point, that I was not just another number to Dr. Weaver. I could see the sincerity and genuine concern Dr. Weaver had for me in his questions and demeanor. I explained how my injury occurred and Dr. Weaver examined my eye. He then informed me that a surgical procedure was required in order to repair my eye. His next few minutes of speech assured me of his ability to perform the surgery, the seriousness of the situation and his desire to do everything in his power to repair the damage. I expressed my feelings and concerns and Dr. Weaver reassured me and was specific about the injury and his desire to repair the injury and return my life as close to normal as possible.

Prior to my injury I had 20/20 vision. I was in a detached garage at my home hammering a small nail into some plywood. The nail ricocheted off the hammer and struck my left eye. Within minutes I lost vision in my left eye and when I tried to look through my eye it was like looking through thick fog. I could not see more than a few inches in front of my face using only my left eye. My vision was checked by Dr. Weaver approximately 8 hours after surgery and my vision was 20/40. Approximately 30 hours after surgery my vision had returned to 20/20 and has remained there ever since.

Following the surgery I met Dr. Weaver at his office for numerous re-checks and treatments. Every visit I was given very specific instructions on what I should do to assist his treatment in healing my eye. Doctor Weaver was always friendly, genuinely concerned and straight forward. He never sugar coated his diagnosis but always explained thoroughly what good and bad could come from the injury. Dr. Weaver told me things to expect as the eye healed and he was right on the money, even further convincing me he was a doctor with vast knowledge of the human eye.

Having only had a few eye exams in my life I had little knowledge of what it was like to lose vision or have diminished vision. I would like to encourage everyone to wear safety glasses when they doing anything that could even possibly be dangerous. I have had a number of people tell me since my injury they have too been injured because of simply not wearing safety glasses. Most of these injuries happened while performing menial tasks.

With the amount of damage to that was done to my eye, I am still amazed that my vision has returned to 20/20 and that I would have very little detail changes in my vision. I can honestly say my life could have been significantly changed had it not been for Dr. Weaver and Eye Associates.   I would like to say that I am forever indebted to Dr. Weaver and his staff for repairing my left eye giving me the gift of sight again.

From the reception area, through the eye exam and finally in the optical center, everyone was courteous and friendly. I was more than pleased by the results of my appointment. Dr. Brienen corrected the prescription in my glasses which has made my life fairly miserable for the past three years (three pairs of glasses with incorrect prescriptions from two separate doctors and optical shops). He was very thorough and answered all the questions my previous doctor brushed off as "typical in women." Dr. Brienen changed the prescription in my lenses and recommended different eye drops. Now my eyes no longer feel strained after a day at the computer.
